West-Mont classes continue the Montessori approach with Montessori trained teachers in the Primary classes. The B. C. Education curriculum is also being followed for each Grade. All classes are taught by fully qualified teachers, accredited by the BC College of Teachers.

The Montessori Method includes the regular use of manipulatives (materials that help make abstract ideas concrete) in math, language arts, geography, world culture and science.

The music program includes instruction in ukuleles, recorders and song. West-Mont Wednesday activities for the students include cooking, needle art, pottery, dance, knot tying, print making and kite making.

The classes take weekly hikes to the beautiful Witty’s Lagoon to observe nature, trees, birds and the changing seasons. The Learning Garden on the western corner of the property is an integral part of education at West-Mont School. The students plant seeds and care for the plants until they are either ripe or blooming. The popular garden has classroom plots, a pizza garden, a fairy garden and a hothouse to start the growing season.

Conversational and written French are taught to the Primary students through songs, plays and literature.
